What each appointment does, and how we get you there without giving up your hair's strength.

Platinum blonde hair is the one color goal where patience does as much work as the lightener. Getting to that clean, cool white means lifting nearly all the pigment out of every strand, and hair only has so much to give at once. A blonde specialist at Adelaide Beauty in Greensboro will map out the whole plan before anything gets mixed, and a K18 treatment after each session helps put back what the process takes out.
Here's how we do it at Adelaide Beauty. It may take longer than one sitting, but it ends with hair you still want to run your fingers through.
What going platinum asks of your hair
Lightener breaks down the pigment inside each strand and loosens some of the bonds that hold it together. Dark hair passes through red, orange and gold on its way to the pale yellow so toner can turn into platinum, and every step costs a little strength.
So the goal isn't the fastest route to white. The goal is always the one that leaves your hair strong enough to wear platinum blonde hair for months, not just the drive home.

The consultation that sets your timeline
Nothing gets mixed at Adelaide Beauty until we've talked. Every visit to our Greensboro hair salon on Battleground Avenue starts with your hair history, your inspiration photos and your final quote.
Your stylist will also check how your hair stretches when it's wet. If it stretches and stays there, we slow down. Darker or previously colored hair usually takes two or three sessions, and you'll hear that number in the consultation, not halfway through.
A session-by-session plan for platinum blonde hair
Session one: lift with room to spare
Session one gets as much clean lift as your hair can comfortably give, then stops on purpose. Our Platinum Card, an all-over foiled platinum service, places every section in its own foil, so your stylist controls exactly where lightener sits and for how long.
That control only matters if someone's watching. At Adelaide Beauty, your stylist isn't juggling three chairs, so the person who mixed your lightener checks it foil by foil and rinses the moment it's ready.
You'll likely leave a soft golden blonde, toned so it looks finished. This is also the day to add a K18 treatment, which is our ten-minute bond-building add-on. It helps reconnect the bonds lightening breaks. If your hair doesn't need it, your stylist will say so.

The weeks in between
We usually space sessions four to six weeks apart. Here's your half of the work in between:
- Wash less often, with a gentle, color-safe shampoo.
- Use heat protectant, and turn your hot tools down a setting.
- Put a leave-in bond repair mask on towel-dried hair.
Session two and beyond: finishing the lift
Your stylist checks your stretch first. If it springs back, this session takes you from gold to pale yellow, and toner clears the last of the warmth.
Pale yellow and true platinum look surprisingly alike under a warm bulb, which is why we made sure the light in here tells the truth. What you approve in the mirror is what you take home.
If it doesn't, we trade lightener for a strength-focused visit and another month. Either way, a second K18 treatment helps the finished color hold up to real life.
Keeping platinum blonde hair strong once you're there
Once you've arrived, only new growth gets lightened. Overlapping onto hair that's already platinum is the quickest way to a breakage line. Our Platinum Root Retouch & Tone, the maintenance service built for platinum, handles this every six to eight weeks.
Toner fades with washing, so a glaze to bring back the cool tone between platinum retouches keeps things bright. If it looks dull, a hard water treatment clears the mineral buildup.
It pays to keep the same blonde specialist in Greensboro once you find one. Someone who sees your hair every six weeks notices it changing before you do.
Signs your hair needs a break from lightener
Pause the lightener if you notice any of these:
- It feels gummy or mushy when it's wet.
- It stretches and doesn't spring back.
- Ends keep snapping at the same length.
None of these take platinum off the table. It just means we will use the next visit to rebuild strength, usually starting with a K18 treatment.

Platinum questions we hear a lot
Can I go platinum over box dye?
Honestly, it's the hardest place to start, and sometimes not a realistic one. Box color is made to stay put. It builds up on the ends, lifts unevenly and often stalls at orange, and pushing past that costs the strength this plan is built to protect.
If platinum is the goal, the most useful thing you can do is put the box down now. If some is already on your hair, tell your stylist everything. Sometimes the right call is to let it grow out first, and we'll tell you that plainly, even when it isn't what you were hoping to hear.
Is platinum a good way to blend gray?
It can be. Gray grows in far more softly against platinum blonde hair than against dark color.
Can I swim with platinum blonde hair?
You can. Platinum and pool water just aren't natural friends, so wet your hair and comb in a leave-in conditioner first, then rinse as soon as you're out.
